Bhubaneswar: The government will select model urban local bodies to improve services and ask others to follow suit in an attempt to improve civic services.
The housing and urban development department will set service-level benchmarks for the selected urban local bodies and help them improve services, including drinking water supply, waste management and storm water drainage.
"We will select three model urban local bodies from corporation, municipality and notified area council. The benchmarks will be set based on their standing and steps taken to improve services," said a department official.
He said after improving the services at the model urban local bodies, their counterparts would be asked to follow the practices and improve civic services at their respective areas.
The decision was taken during a review meeting of activities under the Swachh Bharat Mission last week. Sources said many civic bodies were lagging behind in activities under the mission.
