Bhubaneswar, Feb. 14: Sweets and all other dairy products are going to burn a deeper hole in your pocket this marriage season as the recent rise in price of Omfed milk has come into effect in the state from today.
While the price of paneer has gone up by Rs 12, the price of chhena (cottage cheese) has gone up by Rs 9 per kilogram.
Now, one kilogram of paneer will cost Rs 139 and similar amount of cheese Rs 115.
This is the second price revision of milk products in the past three months.
“The price of milk has been revised so frequently that it left us with no option but to raise the prices of dairy products too. The state government must ensure that the price hikes are not done so frequently,” said president of the Milk Products’ Salesman Association Dillip Halli.
He also said the government should set up a dedicated market to sell milk products, which will result in reducing transportation cost.
The city and areas on its outskirts depend on various areas of Puri district, including Nimapada, for the milk products.
The Utkal Mistanna Byabasayi Samitee, an association of sweet-makers of the state, has also decided to hike the prices of sweets.
“The price of sweets will be hiked in proportion to the hike in milk price. Though we have not calculated the exact hike in the price of sweet, it will be revised in next two to three days,” said general secretary of Khurda district of the association Sisir Mishra.
Bhubaneswar has more than 400 sweet shops and the total daily requirement of chhena in all these shops comes to around 10 tonnes.
Omfed had decided to hike the price of single-toned and double-toned milk by Rs 2 per litre on February 4.
Now, one litre of single-toned milk will be sold at Rs 28, while the price of double-toned has come to Rs 26.
