Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic circulation over the northeast Bay of Bengal is likely to concentrate into a low-pressure area in the next 48 hours leading to gradual increase in rainfall in the state in next 24 hours, said a release by the Regional Metrological Centre in the city.
The office of the special relief commissioner has alerted 26 districts. Met director H.R. Biswas said there would be light to moderate rainfall in most parts of north Odisha and some parts of south Odisha from Tuesday night.
"The rainfall activity in the state would be less for two days till September 4, after which it will gradually increase from Wednesday evening under the influence of the low pressure. From Thursday, most parts of north and north interior districts of the state will receive very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in the districts," Biswas said.
According to the forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely to occur in Balasore, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj and Jagatsinghpur. A heavy rain warning has also been issued for Sundargarh, Sonepur, Puri, Khurda, Angul and Dhenkanal districts. Biswas further informed that the overall rainfall activity was likely to decrease after September 6.
"Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till September 7," he said.
