Angul/Paradip, Jan. 9: A Talcher court today granted bail to Odisha Stevedores Limited managing director Mahima Mishra and rejected a remand plea by police in connection with a 2011 case at Talcher.

Mishra was brought from the Kujang jail to Talcher court by the police following permission from a court in Kujang. He was produced at the Talcher court where the police wanted Mishra on seven days' remand. After the court granted him bail, he was taken back to the Kujang jail today.

In 2012, Mishra had obtained bail from the high court in this case and the local court had granted him bail because of the high court's direction.

The police had sought Mishra's custody in a firing incident at Jaganath colliery colony in January 2011. The manager of Jalaram Transport Company, Amiya Kumar Ganguly, was shot at by an unknown assailant. The bullets had hit his driver Abhaya Biswal instead of him.

The Colliery police, in its FIR, had not named Mishra but suspected him as conspirator. However, Mishra had secured anticipatory bail from the high court. Mahima was earlier interrogated by a team of crime branch of the state police, Paradip police, besides the Talcher police in connection with October 26 murder in Paradip and old criminal cases pending against him.

Following Mahima's arrest on charge of orchestrating the October 26 murder of rival Seaways Shipping company's general manager Mahendra Swain, the colliery police had again started investigating the five-year-old case.

The tycoon had been arrested on December 26 along with an accomplice, Basant Bal.
