Balangir: Stage is set for the annual cultural programme at Koshal Kalamandal ground here from Sunday.

The Balangir Lok Utsav showcases the performing arts from across the country. For the first time in seven years, the festival will be held at its scheduled dates between November 5 to 8. In previous years, the festival was delayed by months because of various reasons.

The festival, organised by the state culture and tourism department and the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (Ormas) will see cultural troupes from Assam, Jharkhand, Mizoram and Bhopal take part.

The troupe from Assam will showcase Bihu while the one from Jharkhnad will perform Sadheikala Chhau. The troupe from Bhopal will present Badhei and that from Mizoram will present their traditional folk dance.

District information and public relation officer Jayadev Panigrahi said preparations for the festival was on in full swing and various committees, such as the reception, publicity and the food committees, had been formed to ensure participation of the public. "We have prepared adequately for smooth conduct of the festival," he said.

An eminent artist from the district would be honoured every evening during the festival. Another major attraction at the festival is the Pallishree Mela sponsored by Ormas, a big favourite with the public as it offers an array of choices which are not available at any other time of the year. "I eagerly wait for this event as Pallishree Mela offers us a lot of buying options. There are many things in this event you won't get at other times," said Lalita Mishra, a home-maker.
