10 new schools

The Shemrock Group of Schools has named three-year-old Odia boy, Sai Anish Pattanaik, its brand ambassador in Odisha. Sai has the rare ability to recognize 57 car models in less than two minutes. Vice-chairman and managing director of the company Amol Arora said this while announcing the opening of 10 new Shemrock Pre-Schools and two new Shemford Futuristic K-12 schools in Odisha.

Sai’s father Saroj Kumar Pattnaik, an engineer at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, said: “We came to know about my son's ability when we decided to buy a new car. Sai could recall the names of any car by just looking at the pictures. He has already been awarded by Indian World Record Bureau in Jharkhand. We have also applied for the Guinness World Records.”

Playtime

The nine-day 12th Interschool Multilingual Drama Competition is on at Civic Centre, Rourkela. On the first day of the competitive festival, two plays were presented by Madhusudan Sikhyanivas — the timeless classic Rebati by Fakir Mohan Senapati and Dagar by Gurugomekaya School. The second play was presented in tribal language Sadri. “The idea is to kindle the spirit of theatre amongst schoolchildren,” said Umakanta Bisoi, one of the organisers of the event. More than 20 plays will be staged at the festival this year.

Interactive session

To develop the right kind of understanding and attitude towards differently-abled people, an interactive session was organised at DAV Chandrashekharpur. Scholar Priya Winston addressed the gathering and spoke about a strong support system for all differently-abled persons.
