Baripada: Udla police of Mayurbhanj have arrested five persons for kidnapping a 32-year-old man and attempting to kill him. The police also rescued the victim.

The accused have been identified as Ajay Jena, 32, Ananta Parida, 26, Sanjay Parida, 34, Jogeswar Pradhan, 26, and Paresh Parida, 40.

All of them are residents of Pedagadi village in Kaptipada police station limits.

The accused persons were forwarded to court on Sunday after being booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including kidnapping and attempt to murder .

Sub-divisional police officer of Udla, Swapnaranjan Mahapatra, said: "The accused persons have been forwarded to court after being booked under sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 366 (kidnapping), 307 (attempt to murder), 294 (obscene acts), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) ofthe Indian Penal Code."
