Paintings on display at Modern Art Gallery in Bhubaneswar. Pictures by Ashwinee Pati |
Bhubaneswar, Oct. 9: Four young artists from Karnataka have presented a series of paintings and sculptures at an exhibition at Orissa Modern Art Gallery in the city in an effort to portray the deepest thoughts of the mind.
The exhibition has been titled Space Within.
Bringing out the purity of human relationships in his ceramic sculptures, Ravikanth has presented a striking pattern in his creations. His sculpture called Family, which displays the bond of a mother and her baby, is particularly expressive of his theme.
“I tried to bring out innocence and spiritual experiences through my sculptures,” he said. Another of his works, We Are Brothers, where he has presented three similar characters in ceramic, who have differences but can be still identified as belonging to the same group, is fascinating. His tryst with ink on paper, in the drawing My Life, is equally arresting.
Artist Harisha’s drawings are intriguing. He has remarkably transformed objects that one comes across daily into a greater realm that holds a world in itself. His episodes of ‘Palmscape’, created in ink and pen depict the deeper meanings associated with the form and the lines of a human palm. “Inspired by mehendi and folk art, I have tried to interpret the subject with a contemporary angle,” said Harisha.
A similar abstract pattern is visible in Uday Thejaswi Urs’ paintings. Mostly done on paper with mixed media (he has used an acrylic base and pastels as well as charcoal), the artist seems to be exploring the dark forces in nature and mankind. In his works, Protect Nature and Broken Boat, he has dealt with the war on from both sides in destroying each other.
Unlike his three artist friends from Bangalore, Gulbarga-based artist Chandrakant A. Singe has mostly extracted the meanings of facial expressions. “My paintings mostly revolve around portraits of head and shoulders,” said Singe, couple of whose works have already found buyers here. The works, Waiting, Red Rose and Friend bring out the feelings behind a face.
Vijay Shankar of Kaa magazine is the curator and organiser of the exhibition that began on October 8 and will continue till October 12.
