Bhubaneswar, April 3: Around 20,000 students from the state will appear in the first All-India Joint Entrance Examinations (Mains) for centrally-funded national technical institutions including NITs, IITs and other institutes. The examination will be held on April 7.

“There are 33 centres in Rourkela for the offline examinations. While the first sitting will be between 9.30am and 12.30pm, the second will take place between 2pm and 5pm. Students opting for the online mode will appear for the test between April 8 and April 25. Electronic gadgets such as mobile phones or pen drives will not be allowed during the exam,” said a senior Central Board of Secondary Education official at the regional centre here. The authorities have issued instructions to the candidates to carry their Class XII hall ticket along with their JEE admit card to the exam centre.

“This has been done because most candidates who have registered for JEE (Mains) have not submitted their Class XII roll numbers to CBSE. Also many others who had made mistakes while submitting their roll numbers have requested the board to correct their roll numbers,” said the official adding that the details have been made available on the website

Apart from the IITs, National Institutes of Technology, Delhi Technological University and other centrally funded technical institutes have joined the JEE main this year. All colleges in Gujarat and Nagaland have also joined the JEE main.

Odisha has decided to join the JEE main and not hold Odisha JEE for its colleges from next year onwards.

In the JEE (Mains) examination, weightage will be given to the performance of a candidate in the Class XII examination.

The Rourkela district administration has made special arrangements for students to reach their respective venues. Hundred buses will ferry the students to the different centers for a nominal price of Rs 10. Arrangements for food and accommodation have been made for at least 3,000 students at various kalyan mandaps.

“This was done for students who could not secure rooms in hotels or have no relatives in Rourkela,” said municipal chairperson Rashmi Bala Mishra. Many community organisations have also offered to provide food to the students at nominal costs.

However, CBSE authorities said these arrangements were made mainly to discourage students from opting for the offline mode.
