Bhubaneswar, Jan. 3: The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) is doing its best to ensure that the JEE (Main) merit list does not get delayed this year.
At a meeting held last week, the CHSE decided to cut down the time to apply for re-evaluation of marks by 15 days. This will help in faster compiling of the Class-XII results.
The Class-XII results are the key components in preparing the JEE merit list. The JEE (Main) 2015 rank list was prepared based on the joint entrance test, which carried 60 per cent marks and the Class-XII results, which carried 40 per cent marks.
The time taken by the state government in declaring the state board exam results led to the delay in JEE (Main) results last year. "Instead of 30 days, the time to apply for re-evaluation has been decreased to 15 days. This will help us share the results of the state board with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) sooner," said CHSE chairman Basudev Chattoi.
CBSE has set a deadline of June 10 for the state boards to send their results this year. Until last year, the deadline set by CBSE was June 25.
Chattoi said that the move would not hamper students.
"Times have changed and students will get all the required updates online. Having a 30-day time limit only makes the students complacent. More number of students are now applying online. So, cutting short the number of days will not make any difference to students who wish to apply for re-evaluation," said Chattoi.
The CHSE has set up 1,097 examination centres this year. Last year, it had 1,091 centres.
"Some new colleges have been included as exam centres," Chattoi said.
The examinations are scheduled from March 2 to 29, and the practical exams will be held between January 20 to 30 . The council has also made model question papers and answer sheets of various subjects on its website that will benefit the students.
