Bhubaneswar, April 13: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik, is likely to change the heads of the party’s three frontal organisations.

Although Naveen today ruled out an immediate reshuffle in his council of ministers, highly placed sources said that women wing chief Pramilla Mallick, who had stepped down from the council of ministers following the dal scam, and students’ wing chief Ranjit Mahapatra had already been told about Naveen’s decision. The fate of youth wing chief Sanjay Das Burma appears to be uncertain.

Party sources said that the chief minister was not happy with the three frontal organisations. Supporters of youth wing chief Das Burma, however, are hopeful that their leader may continue in the post because he had been in forefront of the party’s anti-Centre campaign. Moreover, the first time MLA had defeated the powerful Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mahapatra.

Asked about the possibility of a reshuffle in his council of ministers, Naveen today said: “When it happens, you will be the first to know.” A Naveen loyalist said: “No one can read his mind. He prefers to spring a surprise on people.”

To avoid the impression that he was reshuffling his cabinet due to criticism from the Opposition, Naveen preferred to wait till the budget session of the Assembly was over.

Party sources said that now the government has only one woman minister — textile and handloom minister, Ajali Behera — Naveen would prefer to have a tribal leader replacing dalit leader Pramilla Mallick.

The name of Sarojini Hembram, daughter of senior BJD leader Chaitnya Prasad Majhi, is doing rounds.
