Bhubaneswar, March 25: As many as 359 students received their degrees at the 23rd convocation ceremony of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, held here today.
Degrees were awarded in various programmes, including the doctoral-level fellow programme in management, postgraduate diplomas in business management, rural management and human resource management.
Chief guest for the occasion, managing director of Tata Steel Ltd, India and South East Asia, T.V. Narendran, addressed the students. He emphasised the need for integrity, commitment and hard work for leading the nation to prosperity. He congratulated them for their academic and professional achievements.
XIMB director Father Paul urged them to keep the belief in hard work, excellence and sincerity strong and always rekindle the core values imparted to them even in trying times. He highlighted the achievements of the institute, faculty and students during the year 2013-2014.
“Despite the prevailing uncertainty in market conditions and the ever-increasing competition, the students of XIMB performed admirably and the institute achieved 100 per cent placements yet again,” said Fr Paul.
“Besides hosting many national-level conclaves and conferences, the reigning success of the 3CMGM programme and the exchange programme has added a feather to the institute’s hat,” he said.
Fr Paul spoke about the newly announced Xavier University, Bhubaneswar, and many awards, including the Century International Quality Era (CQE) Award-2014 and the Global Education Excellence Awards-2014, won by the premier business school.
The first rank holder of XIMB during this academic year, Bineet Mishra, was conferred the C.M. Kandoi gold medal and the Ravi Sharma Arsha Vidya gold medal. Monalisa Guru, the second ranker, also bagged the C.M. Kandoi gold medal. The Odisha Jesuit Society medal went to Swetali Kar and Sarat Kumar, while the Leeta Mishra Ankalkoti gold medal was conferred to Monalisa Guru.
The faculty council gold medal, M.V.D. Bogaert gold medal and the NTPC gold medal were also conferred to meritorious students during the occasion.
Rajive Kaul, chairman of NICCO Corporation Limited, Calcutta and the XIMB board of governors, Fr Paul Fernandes, S.J. director, XIMB, Fr Tony Uvary, S.J. associate director, XIMB, and Biswa Swarup Misra, dean (academics), were also present at the event.
