Bhubaneswar, June 23: The 18-year-old girl who was gangraped inside a moving car on June 10, identified the two accused in a test identification parade held at the Jharpada special jail today.

According to sources, 10 people took part in the test identification parade. But the victim identified Manoranjan Sahu alias Bapu, 35, and Ajay Malia alias Tima, 36, who had allegedly raped her inside a moving vehicle on the pretext of giving her a lift while she was waiting for a bus at Master Canteen Square on the way to her sister’s house at Phulnakhara.

The test identification parade was done in the presence of the fast track judicial magistrate judge Janakar Rout.

The girl, a native of Pipli who had just cleared her Plus Two examination this year, was picked up by the accused from Master Canteen. She agreed to board the vehicle as both the accused were known to her brother-in-law and she had met them earlier.

While Manoranjan was working as a land dealer in the city, Malia ran a poultry business.

In her complaint, the girl had mentioned that the accused duo had also recorded the act on their mobile phones. After allegedly raping her, they dropped her at Phulnakhara Square in the evening. Though the incident allegedly took place on June 10, the matter was reported at the Mahila police station on June 13, as the scared victim had not initially told anyone about it.

Though the police seized the mobile phones of the accused, they could not find any recorded clip as everything had been deleted from those electronic gadgets.

The police have sent the mobile phones for forensic examination.

On June 18, the girl had met the chairperson of the State Women’s Commission demanding protection for herself and her family.

The girl had alleged that the accused had been threatening her family and pressuring them to withdraw the case and go for a compromise.

The chairperson of the State Women’s Commission, Jyoti Panigrahi, had assured security to the girl and her family.

The case had turned bizarre with the victim’s father alleging that the person, with whom his daughter was staying in Bhubaneswar, was not related to his family. He had accused the person of trying to “use” his daughter. The victim, on the other hand, had said that her father was a drunkard and was acting at the behest of other villagers.

It was alleged that the villagers had tried to persuade her father to withdraw the complaint as the incident had brought a bad name to their village.

The girl had threatened to commit suicide if she was denied justice. Subsequently, a team from the Mahila police station had visited the victim’s village near Pipili and recorded the statement of her mother, who also had demanded justice for her daughter.
