Bhubaneswar, Sept. 7: Young dancers of a city-based dance institute performed at a cultural programme at Rabindra Mandap here on Monday evening. The performances included Odissi as well as folk and modern dances.

Students of the Pragnya Nrutyayan institute started the event with guru pujan in which they paid tribute to noted Odissi dancer Durga Charan Ranbir through traditional rituals.

The artistes performed an Odissi repertoire that included a patriotic sequence Bande Mataram. This was followed by performances such as guru bandana and later Ganesh tandava.

The young dancers presented compositions based on the sthayi form of Odissi. The artistes also performed folk dance on songs such as Haye Krishna and E Baula.

The dancers also staged a performance on the famous song Rangabati. The performance received rave response from the audience.

“The performances were well presented by the young dancers of the institute. But, I liked the Rangabati performance the most,” said Prasant Sahu, a viewer.

Durga Charan Ranbir was conferred with the Guru Samman award by the institute on the occasion.
