Berhampur, April 20: Twenty-three persons from Kalahandi, who allegedly became blind after a faulty cataract operation at an eye camp at Dharmagada in Kalahandi last year, were today admitted to the eye department of the M.K.C.G. Medical College and Hospital here.
Twenty-two more persons from Kalahandi, who became blind after cataract operation at the same camp, were admitted to the eye department of the M.K.C.G. Medical College and Hospital earlier on Monday.
Eye specialist Dr Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra, who examined the patients today, said: “We are looking after all the patients. We have a panel of doctors who are examining them. We would furnish a report to the chief district medical officer of Kalahandi after through investigation.”
We have also arranged food for all the patients and their attendants in the hospital. Two officers, who accompanied the patients and their attendants from Bhawanipatna to Berhampur, were accommodated at the revenue inspection bungalow here. I personally discussed the issue with the hospital’s superintendent and deputed the social welfare officer to the hospital to oversee the arrangements,” said Dr Ajit Mishra, sub-collector of Berhampur.
