Hrushikesha Mohanty has recently been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University. Prior to this appointment, Mohanty was working as a senior professor in the school of computer and information sciences, University of Hyderabad. He has also contributed for the implementation of e-governance system in the University of Hyderabad. In addition, he is a litterateur with three Odia poetry books to his credit. He regularly writes for various Odia newspapers. This apart, educator Rambabu Kodali has joined as the pro vice-chancellor of the varsity.
Job fair
The National Career Service Centre recently organised a job fair for differently-abled in Bhubaneswar. Seventeen national-level companies and more than 1,100 youngsters took part in the event. About 355 participants have been short-listed by the employers.
Research promotion
The Gangadhar Meher University, Sambalpur, has set up a special cell to promote research activities. An action plan has been prepared by the newly formed research policy committee. A committee member said research activities would help the institution get good ranking in the NIRF and improve the reputation of the institution. Established in 1944, the college had been upgraded to university in May, 2015.
Art workshop
The Art and Crafts College of Balasore recently organised a three-day workshop on its campus on Madhubani painting. Artist Prativa Jha of Bihar provided basic knowledge about the art form to the participants at the workshop. Sixty students attended the programme. Jha told the students about the themes and making of Madhubani painting, including colour combination and placing.
Award ceremony
The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI), Bhubaneswar chapter, recently organised an award ceremony and a blood donation camp. Governor S.C. Jamir inaugurated the blood donation camp and graced the function as chief guest. He released the ICAI newsletter and handed over the awards and certificates to the students. Hundred units of blood were collected at the camp.
Poster contest
A poster competition on the theme 'Safe City, Safe Campus' was organised last week at the DAV School of Business Management, Bhubaneswar. About 88 students of the institute took part in the event where they shared their views on safety and security to make Bhubaneswar a smart city. Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation general manager (operations) Deepak Routray and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited gender specialist Sarojini Brahma were the guests at the event. The team of Asiya Jawed, Manishree Kanungo, Shreekrupa Rath and Chirag Hota won the first prize by depicting the plight of women harassment.
Dam deal
The Central Water Commission (CWC) has signed an MoU with the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, to support dam rehabilitation efforts of various implementing agencies and the CWC.
