Balasore, Dec. 30 : The forest department plans to set up ethnic tribal cottages in the buffer zone to promote tourism and provide livelihood to villagers living in the vicinity of the Similipal National Park.
The forest department has considered three spots at Gudugudia, Barehipani and Nawana located outside the the sanctuary’s core area.
“We have mooted an idea to build these cottages at three places. Initially, we would be setting up a cottage at Gudugudia, and subsequently, in other two other earmarked places,” said Anup Kumar Nayak, regional chief conservator of forest.
“The prime objective is to provide employment opportunities to the local tribals and reduce poaching. The visitors will also be familiar with the unique art and culture of the local tribes,” said Nayak.
Mud and thatched cottages will be built at these places and decorated with indigenous art reflecting the local tribal culture.
