Berhampur, April 28: A drunken man, Narasingha Nayak (35), killed his two-year-old daughter, Mamali, by piercing a stick into her private part yesterday evening.

The victim’s mother brought Mamali to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here in a critical condition when she was profusely bleeding. But doctors at the hospital declared her dead.

“We have arrested Narasingha after his wife Champa lodged an FIR against him today. We will produce him in court on Friday,” said B.N. Pradhan, inspector in-charge, Berhampur Sadar police station.

Narasingha, who is a habitual drinker, works as a labourer. He married Champa about eight years ago and lives in a rented house at Alakapuri under Berhampur Sadar police station. The couple also has a seven-year-old son. According to Champa, who works as a maid, Narasingha had been frequently scolding Mamali lately.

“Everybody in the family had been out in the morning and returned home in the afternoon. I went out around 5pm to fetch some water. During this time, Narasingha came to the house. When I returned home, Mamali was lying in a pool of blood and was crying. I immediately took her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital but in vain,” said Champa with tears rolling down her eyes.

“Narasingha had broken Mamali’s right leg two months ago. He usually used to become furious when Mamali urinated or defecated inside the house. Narasingha was in a drunk state and when he saw the urine and human excreta inside the house, he got furious,” said Pradhan.
