Bhubaneswar, Jan. 22: The ambitious digital university project by the state higher education department has failed to take off allegedly because of the indifferent attitude of various state universities.

Utkal University, where the pilot project was scheduled to be launched, has allegedly shown lukewarm response to the implementing agency, the Odisha Knowledge Corporation Limited (OKCL), about the project.

“We haven’t received a single reply or acknowledgement from the varsity about the digital university project,” said a senior OKCL official.

As part of the project, students enrolling into the universities will be given a personalised login ID and password at the time of admission which they will be able use till completion of their higher education. All information relating to the students, including their admission details, exam schedules, competitions, job alerts, scholarship information, timetables, examination forms and hall tickets, will be made available to them in their account.

The OKCL had even offered the varsity official a tour to Maharashtra and other states where such projects were being implemented.

“The project did not entail much financial involvement from the university. The project was totally free of cost for the first year. In the subsequent years, the students would have to pay a nominal fee of Rs 100 at the time of admission,” said Santosh Birari, managing director of the OKCL.
