Bhubaneswar: The state government has planned to develop Deojharan, located around 30km from Sambalpur city, famous for its waterfall, into an eco-tourism site.
According to sources, the state government has accorded administrative approval for development of the site under Jujumura block in the district at an estimated cost of Rs 94 lakh. The forest department had earlier submitted a proposal in this regard.
"The beautification work of the spot will start shortly. Facilities for boating will also be made available for visitors at the reservoir," said a senior official of the state forest department.
This apart, plans have been chalked out to develop pathway to reach the waterfall, eco-tourism cell, floating jetty and watch tower at the spot. Two check gates at Talijharan village and one at the parking place will be constructed and signages will be put up. There will also be a spot to sell forest produce.
All the necessary facilities such as drinking water will be made available for the tourists. Toilets will also be constructed at the spot for the convenience of tourists.
Deojharan currently witnesses a footfall of more than 30,000 tourists annually. The waterfall attracts a large number of picnickers from across the state from November to January."Members of Vana Samrakshana Samiti will be provided capacity training programme so that they can manage the spot after completion of the development work," said an official. Two boats will be made available at the eco-tourism site. "All the necessary safety measures will be strictly followed when tourists use the boats, including life jackets," the official said.
Snakebite
A 23-year-old woman died of snakebite in Bahadasipur village in Kendrapara on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Ruchika Mallick, police said.
