Cuttack, May 6: Disorganised traffic flow is creating problems for the commuters at Belleview crossing near CDA Colony, one of the busiest junctions, in the city.

Moreover, traffic violations are rampant at another opening at a distance of nearly 30 metres from the crossing, which has become an accident-prone area. The commuters are risking their lives to cross the road through the cut-point, which needs to be closed at the earliest.

“There should be only one opening for easy access on either side of Ring Road near Belleview,” said Prakash Dash, a commuter.

The commuters coming from the CDA and Sishu Bhavan sides are using the second opening near Belleview to move towards the Chandni Chhak, Dagarpada and high court sides. Moreover, the commuters coming from the Bidanasi, Sati Choura and Shelter Chhak sides are also availing the opening to move towards the ABIT College, Judicial Academy, CDA and Chandni Chhak sides.

“The commuters are finding it hard to negotiate with the vehicles taking a U-turn near the cut-point, especially at night,” said Gynaranjan Panda, another commuter.

The traffic officials took steps for deployment of personnel at Belleview Crossing after The Telegraph had highlighted the chaos at the particular junction in a report published on May 11 last year.

Though additional traffic constables and home guards have been deployed and a speed-breaker constructed at Belleview, the officials are yet to streamline traffic on the second cut-point near the crossing. Moreover, the officials said there was no proposal to close the second opening near Belleview as of now.

“Till now, there are no immediate plans to close the cut-point, but we hope that the chaos on the particular opening will be checked after construction of a boundary wall of the judicial academy,” said a senior traffic official.

Moreover, a decision regarding construction of speed-breakers at different parts of the city and near Belleview would be discussed at the traffic management committee meeting scheduled to be held this month, the official said.
