Tribute to Gandhi
Exuberance and ardour marked the annual day celebrations of Takshila School, Bhubaneswar, on January 30, as students added colour to the occasion with a cultural carnival.
Though the event began on a sombre note with teachers and students paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi, who was assassinated on this day, the cultural fiesta “Twisha” livened up the evening.
While the kids from Nursery presented a skit titled Ekta Shakti, the ones from lower and upper kindergarten complemented this performance with a drama Friends of the Jungle.
This was followed by East meets West, a fusion dance show in which students of Classes VII and VIII participated. There were many other performances, including Touch the stars by Class I kids.
The evening came to an end with yet another dance-drama called The Awakening, which emphasised India’s inherent philosophy of non-violence and peace espoused by Mahatma Gandhi, and recital of the national anthem.
Sumedha Ray of Class V hosted the programme while principal Lipsita Mohanty read out the annual report highlighting the school’s achievements in the past year.
Educationist Bikram Keshari Das, who was the chief guest, gave away the various prizes.
Get, set, go
Students of St. Xavier School (Satya Nagar), Bhubaneswar, exhibited their agility and strength during the annual sports meet at the Kalinga Stadium last week. Over 500 students took part in a range of events such as marathon race, drills, javelin throw, shot put, gymnastics and aerobics. The participants donned bright, colourful costumes, according to their membership of the different houses of the school.
For a cause
Odisha governor M.C. Bhandare felicitated two students of Mother’s Public School, Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday for their performance in an English debate competition. While Rituparna Padhy of Class VIII stood third, Poonam Behuria of Class VII won a consolation award in the competition organised by Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh on the theme “Leprosy-cured people in mainstream society”.
