Cuttack, May 5: Police today ruled out any irregularities in a kidney transplant incident at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

A senior police official said preliminary investigations had revealed that the kidney transplantation was undertaken in keeping with necessary guidelines governing organ donation and transplant in the country.

Moreover, a few documents and affidavits from the concerned hospital has been seized, and the chief medical officer has been asked to conduct a detailed verification of the documents, said deputy commissioner of police Sanjiv Arora.

“Initially, we had lodged a case, and according to the preliminary investigation, it was found that all the necessary procedures were followed. We have asked the chief medical officer for further investigation,” Arora said.

Arora said the donor, in her affidavit, had mentioned to have donated her kidney to one of her Angul-based relatives.

In another development, the recipient has been shifted to intensive care unit following certain infection after the transplant. Moreover, efforts are on to interrogate the donor, who is still undergoing treatment at the hospital, Arora said.

Anupama Sasmal, senior consultant of the hospital, stated in a release: “Padmini Nayak is the donor for kidney transplant of Ajay Kumar Swain. Following a high court order and approval of the state’s director of the medical education and training, the said procedure has been carried out at our hospital.”

The police swung into action after a man brought kidney theft allegations yesterday.

Bhabhagrahi Nayak, a rickshawpuller from Thoria Sahi, alleged that the kidney of his wife was removed at the hospital.

Earlier, Bhabagrahi and his wife Padmini and three children had gone missing from their house since May 1. Later, his family members lodged a kidnapping case after failing to contact and trace them.

Police sources said that initially the victim’s husband had alleged before the media that a couple had lured him to sale the kidney of his wife for Rs 3 lakh.
