Bhubanewar, Jan. 3: Youth Congress activists hurled eggs at food and civil supplies minister Sanjay Das Burma's car at Puri Special Circuit House today alleging large-scale bungling in preparation of the ration card list.

Sources said the incident took place after a news conference at the circuit house by the minister.

No one was arrested till the filing of this report. But a police official said the Congress activists had been identified and would be nabbed soon.

Earlier, speaking to the media, Das Burma had said that nobody would be spared if found guilty of suppressing facts and violating the rules of National Food Security Act.

"Eleven ration card monitoring committees are operating in Puri district. Those who want to lodge any complaint can do so at any of these committees. Stringent criminal action will be taken against those found guilty," he said.

However, Congress leaders have been demanding resignation of the minister holding him responsible for the bungling. A Congress activist, on the condition of anonymity, said: "The plan to hurl eggs at the minister was made by the district unit."

They alleged that the BJD leaders - right from MLAs, mayors, zilla parsihad members to councillors - were involved in the ration card bungling.

Last week, Cuttack mayor Anita Behera had resigned after her name figured in the ration card list. It also was alleged that Puri zilla parishad chairperson Dibakar Patra's wife Kabita Patra was also issued a ration card. But the matter was hushed up and no action was taken.
