Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of computer teachers have been demonstrating in front of the Assembly for the past 24 days in the sweltering heat demanding regularisation of their services.

"In spite of working for more than 15 years as computer teachers in different projects under the government, we are yet to be treated as computer teachers. We are now treated as school co-ordinators," said a protester.

On Monday, nearly 60 agitating teachers who suffered sun strokes were admitted to hospitals. The 8,000 teachers working in different schools have not received their salaries for the past seven months. They are agitating under the banner of the Information Computer Technology School Co-ordinator's Association.

Parikhita Nayak, a qualified teacher with an MCA degree, said: "I have been working as a teacher in the Laxminarayanpur High School under Ghasipura block in Keonjhar district. Besides imparting computer education to students, we do odd jobs at the schools, including preparation of salary bills of school employees."

Nayak said: "I prepare salaries of school teachers who get Rs 70,000 a month. But I am yet to get my monthly salary of Rs 6,128 a month."

Parikhita belongs to the constituency of school and mass education minister Badri Narayan Patra.

In order to impart computer training to students at the high school level under the e-Vidyalaya project, the state government had entrusted the job to the Odisha government-run Odisha Knowledge Corporation in 2014 which hired two private companies for the purpose. The project will come to an end on April 2, 2019.
