Paradip: Coast guard personnel on Sunday showcased their maritime surveillance prowess and combative skills in a programme called A Day At Sea.
Civil dignitaries, personnel of Paradip-based industries and stakeholders of coastal security witnessed the event.
The objective was to enlighten the civilians the security prowess of the coast guard.
It was an attempt on part of the coast guard personnel in a bid to familiarise the people with warfare methodology, said commandant, coast guard Paradip, Ashis.
Coast guard ships and Dornier aircraft had been pressed into service for the programme. The well-planned manoeuvres that included anti-piracy and anti-smuggling drill, steam past, fly past and anti-aircraft and surface firing had all left the spectators excited.
The sight of the Dornier flying past coast guard ships thrilled the viewers. A live demonstration of light weapon firing, cross-boarding operations on board launched from coast guard ships were performed.
The boarding operation enlightened the audience on the coast guard's missions on the high seas. The exercise of this nature aimed at making people aware regarding coastal security mechanism.
