Athletics champ

The DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur became the champion with four gold, four silver and two bronze models in the recently concluded DAV Zonal Sports Meet, 2017, at the Dr A.N. Khosla DAV Public School, Rourkela. More than 50 DAV public schools took part in the DAV Zonal Sports Meet. The DAV CDA, Cuttack and DAV Unit-8, Bhubaneswar emerged as the overall champion and runners-up, respectively.

Taekwondo meet

The DPS Kalinga has organised a three-day CBSE National Taekwondo Championship for boys and girls at Railway Indoor Stadium in Bhubaneswar. The participants from eight zones of CBSE-affiliated schools were classified into three categories - under 14, under 17 and under 19. The event culminated with the valedictory ceremony, where the 500 participants received the participation certificates and medals. The overall champion was Gyan Mandir Public School, New Delhi. The Sinhgad Springdale School, Pune, emerged the first runners-up and the Mount Carmel School, Delhi was the second runners-up.

Innovative minds

The Mother's Public School, Bhubaneswar conducted an interschool entrepreneurship competition recently. The main aim of the competition was to provide the young entrepreneurs a platform to share their ideas. Many successful entrepreneurs such as Paris Bakery founder Jayanarayan Pujapanda and Synergy Medicare Pvt. Ltd director Nilamadhav Panda graced the occasion as the members of jury. Sixteen teams from 12 schools took part in the event. The ODM Public School bagged the first prize for the project on TIFFUN and the SAI International School was declared the runners-up for their project FEAST-IN-EAST.

Bus gift

The Alumni Association of 1980 and 1987 batches of Sainik School in Bhubaneswar recently donated a 41-seater school bus to their alma mater for the benefit of the present students. Old Boys' Association president Pritish Basa said the bus would be of great use for the students. At a gathering of the students, teachers and other staff members of the school, the association's vice-president Madhusudan Padhi handed over the bus key to Sainik School principal Kanchan Mukherjee.

Talent search

The Pingalakhi Public Welfare Organisation hosted a talent search programme for school students on November 3 and 7 at Nimapara. The categories were debate, essay, song, drawing and general knowledge with more than 300 students from UKG to Plus Three taking part on both the days. On November 14, the winners will be awarded and six personalities of the area for their services towards society felicitated.

Hockey win

KISS boys emerged champion in the 1st Khirod Memorial 6-A-side Hockey Tournament, by defeating Dhenkanal School 3-2 goals at Phulnakhara recently. The Odisha Police High School, Gorasuni Village Hulipur, the Poonam Youth Welfare Organisation all from Cuttack, DAV Public School, Chandrashekharpur and the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) were the six school teams that took part in the day-and-night meet.
