Bhawanipatna: Students' union president Debasish Ranjan Bishi of Maa Heera Nila Degree College of Biswanathpur in Kalahandi district has threatened to hit the streets if police fail to take action against the principal Ramesh Chandra Sahu for allegedly making casteist remarks.

Acting on a complaint, Biswanathpur police registered a case against the principal last Sunday, but are yet to taken any action.

Dismissing the allegation, Sahu said the charge was false, baseless and concocted.

"I never said anything against anyone. I told them that such a result might be due to technical snag in the computer. I never uttered a word about anyone's caste. All the rooms have CCTV cameras. The footage of the CCTV can be examined to know the truth," he said.

On Thursday, a delegate of the Kalahandi SC, ST and OBC Sangram Samiti led by Satyabadi Naik visited the college and discussed the issue with students.

They later held talks with officials of Biswanathpur police station. Naik said the delegate would apprise the district welfare officer of the matter.

Sources said the result of the first semester of the Plus III arts of the college was published recently in which all the students of the class failed. Some girl students including one Laxmi Suna, a Dalit had gone to the principal to know the reason as to why all the students failed.

Principal Ramesh Chandra Sahu reportedly misbehaved with the girls that led to an argument. During exchange of words, the principal allegedly used casteist remarks against the girl.

Soon after the incident, the students led by the union president went to Biswanathpur police station and lodged an FIR against the principal.

The police registered the case against the principal and promised to ensure justice at the earliest. However, even after five days the police have not taken any action. Students' union president Debasish Ranjan Bishi said: "The police are not taking any action against the principal. If the police fail to take action against the principal in the next two days, we will hit the street."
