Bhubaneswar, March 24: Five armed criminals allegedly looted cash worth more than Rs 80,000 from an electronic shop near Sai Temple Square in the Saheed Nagar police limits today.

They also attacked a relative of the shop owner with sharp weapons and injured him.

Ajit Jena, the owner of the electronic shop, alleged that five masked criminals had barged into his shop around 1.45pm and demanded money from his brother-in-law Maheswar Sasmal, who was sitting in the shop at that time.

"When he resisted, they attacked him with a sharp weapon and then fled with cash worth Rs 80,000 after holding other employees of the shop at gunpoint. The criminals also destroyed some electronic gadgets kept in the shop," said Jena.

Jena also said that though other shopkeepers in the area were present during the incident and fully aware of the loot, none of them came forward to rescue his brother-in-law.

"Maheswar told me that the criminals were drunk and asking for money. By the time I reached my shop after getting a call from Maheswar, they had fled with the cash," said the shop owner, who later lodged a complaint at Saheed Nagar police station.

"We have registered a case, and the criminals have been identified. We are conducting raids to nab them," said inspector in charge of Saheed Nagar police station Deepak Kumar Mishra.

CBI raid

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today conducted raids on the residence of one Kalia Sahu, 40, a builder, who was arrested last night on charges of circulating an MMS containing sexually explicit clipping involving himself and his receptionist on various social networking sites.

The CBI personnel searched Sahu's residence at GGP colony.

The builder had allegedly made the MMS in 2010 and later circulated the clipping on several social networking sites. Though a case in this connection had been registered with Saheed Nagar police, the cops failed to nab him.

Later, the girl had approached an NGO, which took the matter to the Supreme Court. The apex court had ordered a CBI probe into the incident.
