Berhampur: If you are driving a motorbike without a helmet here and waiting for the green signal in a busy square, then be prepared to get a 'pushing card' from the traffic police from Monday.
"We have introduced a 'pushing card' for the bikers who are without helmets to create awareness. This has been introduced in Kamapalli Square, Tata Benz Square and PVN Petrol Pump Square from Monday," said traffic DSP Berhampur Nirad Palei.
Regular helmet checking by the police will continue and student traffic volunteers are also cooperating with the cops, Palei said.
The traffic system in the city will be further streamlined.
"We have trial run the newly acquired interceptor two to three times to check the speeding vehicles. The interceptor will be regularly used within a day or two. The speeding two-wheelers, posing serious threat to the public, will be tackled effectively," he said.
The police have decided to fit closed circuit television cameras in five squares, including Kamapalli Square, Courtpeta Square, Tata Benz Square, Gate Bazar Square and PVN Rao Petrol Pump Square, to check the number of accidents and catch traffic violators.
"We will also reintroduce traffic light signal system in these places for a smooth and systematic job. The Berhampur Municipal Corporation will provide the traffic light signal system and the police would only enforce it. The traffic light signal system will make our task much easier," said Palei.
