Bhubaneswar, May 23: Burglars decamped with valuables and a car last night after locking a software engineer and his family members in their home by Canal Road near Garage Chhak.
Police suspect the burglars had targeted the house because of its isolated location.
The victim, Chinmay Mohanty, a software engineer, said they came to know about the incident early this morning.
"When we found our door locked from the outside this morning, we called up our house owner who stays on the first floor for help. When the landlord opened the door, we found the LCD TV, laptop, cash and other important documents missing. Later, we also found that the culprits had fled with the Hyundai Eon car parked in front of the house," said Mohanty.
The police said the burglars broke in through the window of the room in which the stolen articles were kept.
"The couple was sleeping with their son when the burglars locked the door from the outside. The key of the car was also in the other room," said a police officer. The cops said that the burgled house was located in an isolated place. "The area has four houses and there are several other buildings being constructed. None of the houses had closed-circuit television cameras," said inspector in charge of Badagada police station Suvendu Sinha.
