CBI raid
Bhubaneswar: CBI officials raided theresidence of executive director, (works), Rourkela Steel Plant, B.P. Verma on Sunday. Sources said Verma was to take over as the chief executive office of Bokaro Steel Plant.
Liquor ban
Bhubaneswar: Excise minister Damodar Rout on Sunday said the government was making efforts to make the state liquor free but since it had turned out to be an epidemic it was not bound to stop. “Liquor is like an epidemic which has seeped into every corner of the society. It has turned out into a social evil. Even if we remove the liquor shops from the nearby national highways it will not deter selling of the product,” Rout said.
Phone seized
Bhubaneswar: Police on Sunday seized the mobile phone of deceased Ashutosh Mohanty (Rishi), whose death is still a mystery. A sex clip, allegedly possessed by him, is believed to be the cause of his death. Police said the phone would be sent for the forensic test. “In course of inquiry, we have seized the cell phone of the deceased. We will send it to the Central Forensic Laboratory for examination,” Police commissioner Y.B. Khurania said.

Berhampur: Apprehending foul play by the BJD during the rural polls in Ganjam, the BJP demanded deployment of special protection forces in district’s vulnerable areas. “We feel the local police on election duty will favour the BJD,” said BJP’s Odisha unit secretary and spokesperson Golak Mohapatra.
