Dam meet

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will attend a meeting with his Chhattisgarh counterpart to discuss projects in the upstream of the Mahanadi by the Chhattisgarh government. Naveen on Saturday chaired a review meeting before the tripartite meeting, which will also be attended by Union water resources minister Uma Bharti. The state government, however, alleged the Chhattisgarh government had not yet provided all details regarding the projects.

Rape arrest

Bhubaneswar: Two youths were arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl at Baradanga village in Kendrapara district. The 15-year-old student of a government school was allegedly raped by the duo when she had gone out to relieve herself in the backyard of her house on Thursday evening, police said. Umakanta Rout, 22, and Pralaya Das, 30, were arrested on Friday and have confessed to the crime, said sub-divisional police officer of Kendrapara Purna Chandra Pradhan.

Bus fare hike

Bhubaneswar: The  government on Saturday increased fares for passenger buses. Fares for ordinary and express buses had been hiked by 1 paisa per kilometre, while fares for deluxe and AC Deluxe buses had been hiked by 2 paise per kilometre. With this hike, the fare for ordinary buses will now be 59 paise per km while the fare for express buses will be 62 paise per km.
