Civic body sticks to Bhuasuni
Bhubaneswar: The municipal corporation has decided to change its earlier decision and stick to the practice of dumping garbage at Bhuasuni instead of the alternative site at Tulsadeipur. The decision came following an Orissa High Court order on Tuesday. A peace committee from Daruthenga village met police commissioner Y.B. Khurania on Tuesday to discuss the matter. However, the talks failed and the villagers decided to continue their agitation.
Assets case
Sambalpur: Vigilance officers of Sambalpur division on Tuesday raided the house of Jayanti Sahoo, a constable posted at Baraipali police outpost under Ainthapali police station in Sambalpur following allegations of acquisition and possession of disproportionate assets. The total movable and immovable assets so far detected during the house are worth Rs 1.43 crore.
College clash
Berhampur: Tension erupted at the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) situated on the city outskirts following a clash between senior and the junior students. “The third-year students closed the main gate and squatted there,” said inspector in charge of Golanthara police station Aloke Kumar Jena. They were protesting against an attack on two third-year students by-fourth year students at the canteen on Monday and demanded arrest of the attackers. However K. Premeswar Rao, manager (administration), NIST, said that there was a misunderstanding and it had been amicably settled. No police case has been registered, he said.
Accident
Sundargarh: Two persons were killed and two others were grievously injured when a dumper overturned at Damalu near Barasuan under Lahunipada police limits in Sundargarh district on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Manu Dehury, driver of the vehicle, and helper Babula Dehury. The two injured women were admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment, sources said.
Lightning kills
Bhubaneswar: Four more people were killed in the state on Tuesday due to lightning strikes taking the toll to 56 in the past four days.
