Axe on cop

Cuttack: The director general of police, K.B. Singh, on Wednesday suspended a police officer for facilitating a fake insurance claim by registering an accident case. Source said that Jyotiranjan Gouda had showed undue favours to Purnananda Sahu, owner of a mini-truck, by registering a fake accident case based on a complaint filed by Sanatan Pradhan on February 27.

Similipal shut

Baripada: The Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary will remain closed for tourists from Thursday for the next four months during monsoon. Similipal Tiger Reserve deputy director Ajit Satpathy said: “We have decided to close the reserve since most of the spots become inaccessible during  this time.”

Swing death

Bhubaneswar: A girl died after falling from a swing at Umara village under Mahanga block in Cuttack. She was admitted to SCB Medical Hospital in Cuttack. 

Kidnap arrest

Balasore: Simulia police have arrested a 22-year-old man from village Andarai on the charges of kidnapping a minor. The accused, Balaram Jena, had abducted a minor from the same village.

Bear attack

Bhubaneswar: One elderly woman died and five people were injured in a bear attack at Kapurmal village in Jaipatna block of Kalahandi district. The five were injured while rescuing the woman from the grasp of the bear. The injured have been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhawanipatna.

Cyclone relief

Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation formed over Bengal and Bihar has brought relief to the people here. Regional Meteorological Centre director Sarat Chandra Sahu said that the cyclone was active in the Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar. “The cloud mass has led to a decrease in daytime temperature and also triggered rainfall in some places,” said Sahu.

Body found

Berhampur: The body of an employee of Indian Rare Earth was found hanging from a rooftop inside the plant at Chhatrapur in Ganjam. The deceased was identified as P Ramesh. The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained. However, the father of the deceased, P Rangeya, alleged that Ramesh was murdered.
