Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday wrote to  the Union minister of power and renewable energy, Piyush Goyal, to redress the concern of villagers who will be affected by the construction of a thermal power plant by National Thermal Power Corporation in Lara on the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border. 

Naveen has expressed his concern since the project is likely to affect 27 villages in Jharsuguda district.  The National Thermal Power Corporation has not conducted any public hearing for the affected villages in Odisha, the chief minister said.

Student abducted

Bhubaneswar: A 22-year-old BTech student was allegedly kidnapped on Saturday from Khandagiri, police said on Tuesday. The kidnappers were also demanding a ransom of Rs 15 lakh for his release. Cops said the incident is a fallout of a family dispute as the father of the victim had two wives who fought over the property after his death.

Impostor held

Bhubaneswar: An impostor posing as a Maoist and demanding Rs 25 lakh from an MLA was arrested by the Nayagarh police. The accused, Sushant Nayak, was demanding the amount from the Daspalla MLA and is a resident of Palsa Khaman village of Nayagarh.
