SIMI remand

Rourkela: The Rourkela sub-divisional judicial magistrate’s on Wednesday allowed the Bhopal branch of the National Investigation Agency to take three of the five SIMI members arrested from the state on a 15-day remand. The agency would interrogate Zakir Hussain, Amjad Khan, and Sheikh Mehboob about their involvement in terror activities in Madhya Pradesh.

New BJD bosses

Bhubaneswar: The BJD on Wednesday appointed Kalikesh Singh Deo as the party’s president in Balangir. The party also appointed Debraj Mohanty and Pramod Rath as presidents in Ganjam and Sambalpur respectively. 

Man robbed

Cuttack: Unidentified criminals allegedly looted Rs 5.10 lakh from an employee of a Balasore-based private agency near Trisulia bridge within Baranga police limits here on Wednesday. Police said the incident occurred when Hemant Mishra, of Durga Agency, was travelling to Cuttack after collecting money from distributors.

Vigilance

Cuttack: The vigilance department on Wednesday intensified its probe to ascertain the exact source of income of Sudhanshu Sekhar Mishra, the erstwhile Athgarh divisional forest officer, who was arrested in connection with a disproportionate assets case on February 24.

Dhal Samant

Cuttack: Sushant and Sushil Dhal Samant had diverted a large amount of the money collected through their extortion racket to purchase properties in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Sources said the brothers had invested over Rs 80 crores to purchase plots in prime locations such as Bidanasi and Bidyadharpur.

Murder cuffs

Balasore: A 33-year-old man was arrested on the charge of killing his  55-year-old mother, following altercation with her. The accused, Prakash Mohanty, of Odongi hit her mother with a sharp weapon after a quarreling over domestic issue.

Bhubaneswar: Self-styled spiritual guru Baba Anandatma, who was in Salepur jail on the charges of murdering a youth in his ashram near Rameswar Hill was released on bail.

Leopard attack

Baripada: A cow calf was killed by a leopard in Bangalidiha village inside Dukura forest range. range.
