Rape cuffs

Balasore: Police have arrested Arabinda Singh, a 29-year-old revenue inspector of Jaleswar tehsil, for allegedly raping a 21-year-old woman with the promise of marrying her. He was produced in court on Sunday. “We arrested Singh, a native of Nilgiri, on Saturday after the victim lodged an FIR,” said Bikram Hembram of Raibani police station.

Matric exam

Cuttack: The annual High School Certificate examination is set to begin from Monday. The Board of Secondary Education has completed all preparations for the exam. Around 6,01,348 regular and ex-regular students will appear for the examinations in 2,882 test centres across the state.

Two burnt

Paradip: A 27-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter were charred on Sunday after their house caught fire at Dhanurbelari village in Jagatsinghpur district. Local residents tried to rescue the duo, but both of them suffered over 90 per cent burn and succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The deceased were identified as Sandhyarani Sethy and her daughter Priyanka. The deceased woman was not staying with her husband who works with a private farm.

Trucker held

Balasore: Police arrested a 27-year-old driver who had injured a 52-year-old man in an accident. The cops intercepted Harihar Singh with his truck while he was fleeing, after seriously injuring Upendra Nayak of Kuianali in Mahinsapata gram panchayat limits.

Body found

Baripada: The body of a middle-aged man was found under a bridge. The deceased has been identified as Damu Nayak, 45, of Radhanagar village. Police are probing into the cause of his death.
