Smart city
Bhubaneswar: In a first state-level meeting on smart city project conducted by chief secretary AP Padhi on Tuesday, it was decided that a special-purpose vehicle would be formed by the end of February. It will be headed by a chief executive officer, which will have nominees of the central government, the state government and urban local bodies as member on board. Bhubaneswar municipal commissioner Krishan Kumar said that the CEO would be assisted by four heads of various government departments and other experts.
Rape cuffs
Berhampur: Police on Tuesday arrested a youth for allegedly raping a deaf-and-dumb girl at Jamajhari village in Kandhamal district four days ago. The accused has been identified as Sujit Kumar Dehuri, 26. He allegedly raped the 18-year-old girl in her house on Friday when she was alone. Dehuri is a married man with a two-year-old child.
Book fair
Rourkela: The 23rd Rourkela Book Exhibition, organised by the Adarsha Pathagar, was inaugurated on Tuesday. Executive director in charge of Rourkela Steel Plant Manjush Kanti Das inaugurated the show. More than 80 publishers and major bookshops have taken part in the exhibition.
