Check on crackers

Bhubaneswar: Railways have geared up to prevent people from carrying crackers in passengers and mail or express trains. East Coast Railway has formed a special squad to keep a strict vigil on passengers carrying inflammable items on trains, said a railway release here on Tuesday.

Rural poll plan

Bhubaneswar: The state election commission announced the schedule for voters’ list preparation for the upcoming panchayat polls on Tuesday. 

According to the announcement the preliminary voters list will be published on November 4. 

The final voters list will be available by November 25.

CM for vigilance

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday said the vigilance department and chief vigilance officers had a very important role in successful implementation of schemes and programme initiated by the state government. He asked the PSU heads to empower and strengthen the chief vigilance officers.

Bomb blast

Baripada: Two persons were killed and one injured in a bomb blast near Subarnarekha canal in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Anil Hembram and Kandra Kisku of Brahmanamara village.

Five held 

Paradip: Police on Tuesday arrested five persons and seized five tonnes of cables stolen from a company here. The seizure was made when the cables were being transported in a truck.
