Bhubaneswar: Admission into the MBBS and BDS courses began on Monday with the first phase allotment of seats. The first phase of admission will conclude on September 11. Students who have been allotted seats in the first phase reported at the JEE admission cell at Gandamunda in the city for provisional admision. Admission to the MBBS course in VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla is underway at the JEE cell.

Level crossing

Bhubaneswar: The manned level crossing at Gopalpur-Balikuda connecting NH-5 and Trishulia will remain closed for traffic from 11.30pm on September 8 to 5.00am the following day due to renovation of the level crossing gate in connection with doubling of the Cuttack-Barang railway section.

Bomb cuffs

Cuttack: Police on Monday arrested the main accused in the bombing at the residence of Odisha Cricket Association secretary Ashirbad Behera from Hyderabad. The accused, Seikh Sunil, is on transit remand to Bhubaneswar for interrogation. On August 28, three unidentified men had hurled crude bombs at Behera’s house.

Skulls test

Puri: The 27 human skulls recovered from an ashram at Siddha Mahavira Patana in Puri have been sent to the forensic medicine and toxicology department of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for examination. The ashram’s chief Manoranjan Jena alias Manu baba, who claimed to be an engineer, has been detained for questioning.

Bear attack

Baripada: A 28-year-old man is undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Rairangpur after being attacked by a bear. The victim, identified as Gumia Banaria, of Banduduma village met with the mishap when he was working in the field.

Poachers held

Rourkela: Police arrested five wild boarpoachers o from the nearby jungles. They were nabbed on Sunday along with the boar meat.
