First mine meet
Bhubaneswar: The first meeting of the high-level committee on mines will be held on July 28 to decide the modalities related to the auction of non-coal mines. The state government has selected 13 iron ore, manganese and lime stone mines for auction in the first phase, which will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation (MMDR) Amendment Act. The Odisha Space Applications Centre and the directorate of geology are conducting differential global positioning system survey to demarcate the boundaries of these 13 mines.
Fishermen
Kendrapara: Forest personnel have taken into custody seven inland fishermen on the charges of trespassing into the prohibited waters of Bhitarkanika National Park. The forest personnel also seized two country boats of the arrested persons.
Protest
Sambalpur: The people of Boulsingha village under Bhatli police station limits of Bargarh district blocked the Bhatli-Ambabhona Road on Tuesday. They were agitating against an alleged custodial death and demanded immediate compensation for the deceased. The roadblock began in the morning and continued till late evening.
Liquor seized
Balasore: Excise officials have seized a huge quantity of country liquor from Kesarpur under Sadar police station limits and arrested two persons. The accused Ajay Das, 20, and Ranjan Das, 25, have been forwarded to court.
Arrest
Balasore: Police have arrested a repeat offender from Baisinga. Rafiq Khan, 25, was involved in several cases of forgery.
Murder cuffs
Bhubaneswar: Two persons were arrested by Nayapali police for allegedly killing a man in the wee hours of Tuesday. The accused Siba Naik and Happy were arrested on the charges of killing Manas Swain, 35, whose body was found in a park behind the CBI office on Tuesday morning. Police said the murder was fallout of the past enmity between the deceased and accused.
Graft petition
Bhubaneswar: A local court on Tuesday accepted a petition challenging the graft case against Prakash Mishra, the former director general of police. The next hearing of the petition filed against chief minister Naveen Patnaik and the vigilance director would be conducted on August 20. Orissa High Court had quashed the state vigilance case against Mishra, who is posted as CRPF DG, last month.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology vice-chancellor Manoranjan Kar was conferred the rank of “Honorary Colonel” of the National Cadet Corps Raj Bhavan by governor S.C. Jamir.
