Pyari’s mistake

Bhubaneswar: Rajya Sabha MP Pyari Mohan Mohapatra on Friday admitted that his strategy to oust chief minister Naveen Patnaik three years ago was a mistake. “I failed to read Naveen Patnaik even though I worked with him. Because of my hard work, nearly 85 people got elected to the Assembly.”

Sunstroke toll

Bhubaneswar: The state government has confirmed 21 deaths due to sunstroke this season. 

Programme

Bhubaneswar: The technical education department has been asked to start skill development programmes for 
dropout students from Class VIII to Class XII. The department has also been asked to include students who have not performed well in the matriculation exams under the programme.

Ground survey

Balasore: A technical team visited the district for the ground survey of a mega project under the Subarnarekha 
Sanskar Yojana (renovation of Subarnarekha irrigation project). The Subarnarekha River gets flooded almost every monsoon. The primary cause of such overflowing is the non-dredging of the riverbed and its mouth.  Chief engineer of Central Water Commission S. P. Sinha, his counterpart at the state water resources department, Santosh Patnaik, and chief engineer (planning and design) Gangadhar Sahu visited parts of Bhograi and Jaleswar.

E-tender

Sambalpur: Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited A. N. Sahay on Friday floated the first e-tender, ever to be done in the country, for setting up a coal washery of 10million-tonne capacity at Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda.

Handloom

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik has directed the concerned officials to prepare the handloom and handicrafts policy within a month give a better lifestyle to weavers and artisans. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting at the secretariat while reviewing the performance of the handloom, handicrafts and textile departments.
