MoU signed 

Bhubaneswar: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Ltd and Energy department. The MoU aims to make the public sector units (PSUs) perform efficiently in a selfsustainable manner as per the corporate governance manual issued by the public enterprises department for the state PSUs.

Bear attack

Balasore: Two persons were attacked by a bear at Kanthasimulia village. They are undergoing treatment in Nilgiri subdivisional hospital. Gopal Singh, 45, and Bhima Singh, 42, were attacked when they went to the forest to collect dry leaves.

Medical entrance

Bhubaneswar: About 35,000 students from the state took the All India Pre-medical Test on Sunday. The examination is held for admission to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS) in government and private medical colleges and hospitals. The exam was held at three centres in Bhubaneswar, Rourkela and Berhamapur.

Fraud arrest

Bhadrak: A former branch manager of a private bank has been forwarded to Bhadrak court on Sunday following his arrest. The accused, Nilanchala Rath, 34, a native of Deogarh, was arrested on the charge committing financial embezzlement to the tune of about Rs 2.12 crore. He was booked under several sections of IPC, including forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy, said the inspector in-charge Bhadrak town, Manoj Rout.

Acid attack   

Kendrapara:  A 65-year-old man and his 24-year-old son were critically injured on Sunday at Kanpur village after a group of people threw concentrated nitric acid at them. The injured persons, Santanu Das and Smruti Ranjan Das, were shifted to district headquarters hospital. Their condition was stated to be serious. Land-related feud was the motive behind the crime, police said.
