CPI  meet  Three held Murder

CPI  meet 

Sambalpur:  The 21st state conference of the Communist Party of India (CPI) began here at the Nari Seva Sadan on Sunday. The conference will continue till Tuesday.  The CPI also organised a rally from Fatak railway station to the Gangadhar Mandap and held a public meeting at the Gangadhar Mandap in the afternoon. Addressing the public meeting, national secretary of the CPI Amarjit Kaur criticised the Union budget for ignoring the poorer sections of the society.

Three held

Sambalpur: Jharsuguda police busted a fake certificate racket scam and arrested three persons on Saturday. The accused are identified as Baishnav Sahu, 35, Saubhagya Ranjan Sahu, 27, and Lingaraj Kishan, 23. The matter came to light after Kishan tried to get a job by producing a fake certificate at the interview for the recruitment of constables in Jharsuguda last week. During verification, it came to the notice of the authorities that the certificate produced by Kishan was not genuine.

Murder

Balasore: Nilgiri police on Sunday registered a murder case after the family members of a 26- year-old man, who was killed, had lodged a complaint. The police identified the deceased as Thuba Singh. The accused  is still at large.

Blood donation

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik launched a voluntary blood donation drive 'Jiban Bindu' on Sunday at the BJD headquarters.  Camps at different places in the state will be held in co-ordination with Red Cross Society.  

Agitation

Bhubaneswar: The state Congress has constituted a committee that would launch massive agitations against the ruling BJD government on different issues. The committee comprises of six members that include Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad Harichandan, leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra and other members.

Jaundice

Cuttack: A woman died of jaundice on Sunday, taking the total death toll to three in Cuttack. However, the officials claimed it to be the first case of jaundice death in the city. The deceased, identified as Kabita Tripathy, hailed from Jagatsinghpur district, and was staying at Jobra. She was undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Gambling

Cuttack: Police arrested 11 gamblers and recovered Rs 22,400 cash from their possession. The gambling unit that was operating near the CDA market complex was busted during a raid on Saturday night. Several objectionable items and 10 packets of playing cards were also seized during the raid.

Fashion show

Berhampur:About 40 transgender took part in a fashion show exclusively meant for them at Saheed Laxman Nayak Community Hall in Hillpatna on Saturday.

Accident

Berhampur: A 10-year kid was killed while her father sustained injuries in a road accident near Kataguda village under Kishangar police station in Gajapati district on Saturday. The girl was identified as Amruta and her father Bhupati Rao. 

Electrocution

Bhubaneswar: A 26-year-old man died of electrocution in an apartment near Patia under Chandrasekharpur police limits on Saturday night. The body of Alok Samal, was found in the apartment last night. Police suspect  Samal might have come in contact with a live wire since the electrical wiring of the apartment was undeway.
