Farmer suicide
Balasore: A 58-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Kantabania village under Remuna police station. The farmer, Purnachandra Behera, committed suicide after his crops failed for the second time in a row. He had taken a loan of Rs 2 lakh from a bank and had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from moneylenders.
Man arrested
Paradip: A 32-year-old man has been taken into custody for allegedly raping a mentally-ill woman at Barilo village under Balikuda police station in Jagatsinghpur district. The accused, Bhuban Mohanty, had allegedly entered the woman's house and raped her. He was arrested under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code.
Owl rescued
Bhubaneswar: Forest department officials have rescued a rare owl from near Panchalingeswar. It was later released in the Kuldhia sanctuary. the forest staff also rescued a 10ft-long python from Jaleswar.
Geologists
Rayagada: A team of geologists arrived in Rayagada on Tuesday, five days after landslides were reported from Kalyanpur. Panic had gripped the area after big boulders fell off Kuapachha hill, leading to crop damage on several acres.
