Youth shot

Rourkela: The death of a youth at Tainda village under Nuagaon block caused tension. Gulab Badai was gunned down by three unidentified bike-borne criminals while going to a shop near his house last night.   

School hockey

Rourkela: The 16th State School Hockey Championship, 2015, organised by District School Sports Association, Sundargarh at the State Sports Hostel Ground in Panposh concluded on Friday. The competition was held for boys and girls in the under 14 and 17 categories and the state team would be selected from this tournament.. 

College polls

Nayagarh: Authorities of Nayagarh Autonomous College decided to cancel students’ union polls for this year and closed sine die following student unrest. The decision followed a clash between two student groups on the campus. Police forces have been deployed to maintain law and order.

Death

Berhampur: A 21-year old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband and in-laws at Jamadeipur village over dowry demand. Her body was recovered and her husband, Mithun Gouda, was arrested.

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik felicitated two Odia scientists — Jyotiranjan Srichandan Ray and Bedang Das Mohanty — who recently received the Shanti Swaroop Bhattnagar Award, in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

Jajpur: A Maoist woman has surrendered before the Jaipur police superintendent. She has been identified as Namasi Gundua aka Sasmita. She had been involved in Bansapal police outpost, liquor shop, tea garden attack cases, apart from several others.
