Babita case

Kendrapara: MLA Kishore Chandra Tarai got embroiled in a fresh controversy on Sunday as he was found to have mentioned Kabita as his spouse in the 2014 election affidavit submitted to the Election Commission. However, in the nomination paper for the ensuing panchayat polls, her name has been mentioned as Babita Tarai. Opposition leaders have already alleged that Tarai, the Kendrapara “strongman”, fraudulently withdrawn panchayat poll nomination papers of two Dalit candidates who were contesting against his wife Babita with the help of the local BDO.

Labour wage

Berhampur: Digapahandi MLA and former minister Surya Narayan Patro on Sunday alleged that 42 labourers from three villages of Ganjam district were not being paid their wages for the past few months by a cement factory at Teriyklam in Tuticorin of Tamil Nadu. Patro urged the state labour secretary to look into the issue.

Mishap probe

Bhubaneswar: A 10-member team of National Investigation Agency arrived at Rayagada town on Sunday to probe into the Hirakhand Express derailment. The NIA team, led by inspector general Mukesh Singh, will stay in Rayagada for about 10 days.

Three killed 

Rayagada: Three persons were killed in an accident between a car and a bike at Narayanpur village in Rayagada police limits in Gajapati district on Sunday. Two persons died on the spot and one died on the way to hospital. The identity of the deceased are yet to be established.  

Ganja seized

Bargarh: Barpali police arrested two persons and seized 26 kg of ganja from their possession. The accused persons have been identified as Nilakantha Bag and Binod Sagaria of Muthabali in Kandamal district. Police arrested them at Lenda Chhak while they were in a private bus. Police said the market price of the seized ganja was around Rs 40,000.

Students hurt

Cuttack: Ten students were injured when their school bus rammed into a tourist bus at Bandala in Tangi police station limits around 5 pm on Sunday. Three of them are said to serious and have been admitted to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. All the students belong to a private school at Nrutanga. The school bus had 55 students and a few teachers. 

Body found

Nayagarh:  The beheaded body of an unidentified woman was found near Kantilo Bridge here on Sunday. According to reports, an outfit of a kid was also found near the body. Police rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident and sent the body for autopsy.
