Bribe cuffs on govt officials

Vigilance sleuths today arrested Angul revenue inspector Padan Nayak for accepting bribe from a person for a land verification report at Paripara village in Nisha police limits.

Bhubaneswar, April 27: Vigilance sleuths today arrested Angul revenue inspector Padan Nayak for accepting bribe from a person for a land verification report at Paripara village in Nisha police limits.

Nayak had demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 from Sonu Barik for a favourable verification report.

Barik had given him Rs 1,400 and expressed his inability to pay the rest amount. However, Nayak refused to give the report and demanded more money.

In another development, vigilance sleuths arrested information and public relations officer Durgaprasad Mohanty for receiving a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a journalist.

Mohanty had demanded the bribe from Uday Kumar Sahoo, editor of an Odia monthly news magazine, for empanelling it in the department's advertising list, which releases government advertisements to media houses.

In Puri, the sleuths raided the office and houses of district jailor Surendra Prusty after getting allegations of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
