Bhubaneswar, May 8: BTech students under the Biju Patnaik University of Technology, who had appeared in special examinations to clear back papers, are yet to get their results.

About 6,000 students of 2009-13 batch had taken the special exam in November last year. The examination allows them to clear all back papers during the four-year course.

The result of this exam was supposed to be published in February. However, it has been delayed by more than two months now. Employers, who have promised to hire these students or have already hired them, had given them a deadline of April to clear the back papers.

“We have been running from pillar to post to obtain our certificates. Despite having job offers, we were not able to join in the absence of the certificates. They have asked us either to submit the certificates by April or decline the offers. This is very unfortunate,” said Surendra, a student.

“I have received a notice from my company for not submitting my certificates. However, despite contacting the BPUT officials, they have done nothing. The university has no right to play with our careers,” said Piyush Pradhan.

The outcome could be disastrous as the job market is already in a very bad condition and no companies are coming for campus recruitment, said Mukti Ranjan Nayak, a student. The university officials, however, said that they would strictly adhere to the academic calendar. An official of the university said that the students had been given provisional certificates.

“In special cases, we also issue special letters to the company concerned,” said a senior BPUT official, adding that the results would be out in May.

“While the employment, technical education and training department has been regularly issuing instructions to declare results on time, the BPUT has not been able to do it for whatever reasons. But ultimately, the students suffer the most,” said president of BPUT Students’ Protection Council Biplab Prakash Mohanty.
